The World Wide Web Consortium, (W3C), sets the standards of the look, feel and direction of the World Wide Web. This is an on going and ever changing process. Basic up keep with changes made weekly, monthly, or just yearly, is very time consuming but necessary to keep the look and feel of your website fresh and updated with new coding or standards brought about by the W3C. Our work is with graphics and website designs, because it is enjoyable to create these.
You should have a host or server to upload your website on. Fees can be several hundred dollars per year. Several hosts will hold websites at no charge. The hosts have information on how to up load and what is involved to have your graphics, photographs and html pages on a server. The host will give you a URL for your address.
Web sites will have extensions on them such as .org (Organizations), .net(Networks), .com(Commercial), .gov(Government) and many more extensions are opening up in other countries that can be registered. You can check to see if the name you have chosen is taken or available. There is a fee for 1 year, 2 years and 4 years or more. Sometimes there is a small fee to hold your registered name on a server until you get a website up.
